  • Supports Windows and Mac OS. Compatible with popular innovative software such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, Manga Studio, Paint Tool Sai, and more

The only graphics port on the Artist 16 is the HDMI port. They have offered a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. So if your computer has either HDMI or mini-DisplayPort, you ready to go. If you output from a DVI port, then you will have to get a DVI-HDMI adapter. The construct feels quite strong. There's an excellent weight to it but it's not that heavy considering that it's just a 15.6-inch screen.

There's a matte surface bezel with rounded corners. 8 physical shortcut buttons are on the left. For left handed users, that might be an inconvenience?, The screen is glossy with a black bezel too. The screen is a 15.6-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. It's the same resolution as the Artist 22. Because the screen is smaller sized, whatever appears sharper and it's more difficult to identify the pixelation (although it's still there). It's a completely fine resolution to deal with. User interface aspects like menus, buttons are all at decent sizes and easy to click precisely with the pen.

The support is adjustable at various angles. When the monitor is nearly vertical, it's the bottom of the screen and the stand propping it up. When you tilt the screen is almost flat, the bottom raise and it's only the stand supporting the screen, and because the base of the stand is smaller sized, it has propensity to wobble more when you push down hard while drawing. The stand from the Artist 22 is better because it's the stand that supports the monitor at all angles.

The IPS panel is expected to have good colour reproduction however it is absolutely not as great compared with typical IPS displays. When I first switched on the power, the colours were off by quite a bit. I used the Spyder 5 Pro calibrator to calibrate it. The display's settings just permit you to adjust the brightness and contrast. So colour calibration needs to be done either through your os's colour management, or with the help of a calibrator (which saves a lot of time).

I calibrated the display 3 times in fact. Very first time, it had a sRGB gamut readout of 86%. I changed the contrast through the screen and adjusted once again and I got 89% sRGB. On the 2nd day, I still wasn't pleased with the colours and adjusted it once again, this time it reached 96% sRGB. The colours look relatively great now, but you can't actually compare with standard IPS monitors out there. Seeing angles are decent. The shiny screen is reflective so it could be an issue if you have lights coming from your back or top. Compared with matte screen pen screens like the Artisul D10, Artisul D13 and Wacom MobileStudio Pro, the shiny surface area does have the advantage of making the screen appearance more vibrant and colours somewhat more vibrant.

For this review, I was only able to test it on Mac OS. I presently do not have any Windows computer system to check it on so you might have to get an idea of how it might carry out on Windows by means of the Artist 22 review. If you do not wish to check out that evaluation, I'll simply summarise it here: All drawing apps work great except Mischief.

With the chauffeur, you can change the pressure level of sensitivity, customize shortcut buttons on the stylus and on the screen, and also adjust the display for parallax mistake. Speaking about parallax, the glass is a few millimetres above the screen so there will be some parallax mistake. However parallax can be remedied easily by means of software so it's not an issue.

The pen has a nice size and includes a huge rubber grip that covers perhaps 70% of the body. There are two side buttons however no eraser. You do have to charge the pen and the charging port is behind the pen. Given that you have two pens, you can charge both and when battery runs low, you can swap. You can still utilize the pen while it's charging however.
